Instructions for use
Using a Respisense monitor correctly will greatly enhance your user experience. Please read these instructions carefully
Important
Read all the instructions carefully. Keep these instructions for reference for the entire life of the monitor. Use this monitor sensibly as it cannot address all respiratory threats. Using makeshift straps to hold the monitor may create a restriction hazard. Examine the monitor before every use and do not use if damaged, worn or functioning improperly. The monitor must only be used where its alarms will be easily heard by a caregiver. Keep the monitor safely stored and away from children when not in use. Contains small parts that could be dangerous to children if taken apart. Discard parts of the packaging that may be hazardous to children. In some cases cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) may be necessary to revive a baby.
Be careful of sizeable outside movements that may confuse the monitor, such as while traveling or pushing the baby in a stroller over uneven surfaces, or allowing the monitor to also touch someone else’ s body while in operation. Under such circumstances the monitor may not be able to reliably differentiate between baby’ s movements and external movements.
Disclaimer
The baby monitor is a parenting aid and not a medical device or a substitute for human care-giving. It is intended for use under safe operating conditions and must be used responsibly and in accordance with the detailed instructions appearing on this leaflet. The diagnosis and monitoring of disease must be done by a medical professional. Premature and other high-risk infants and infants with a known predisposition to apnoea must be monitored by a doctor. This product cannot address all respiratory threats and is not designed for use in life support situations. Because the monitor supervises tummy movement and not air flow it is not ideal for detecting obstructive apnoea. Customers use this monitor at their own risk and Infantrust Parenting Solutions (Proprietary) Limited, its staff, agents, contractors, manufacturers, distributors and associates (‘ INFANTRUST ’) shall not be held liable for any loss, damage or injury, including consequential loss, damage or injury, suffered by the customer or any other person as a result of any defects (whether patent or latent) in respect of the monitor, and all warranties, whether express, implied or tacit, and any other liability from whatsoever cause arising, are hereby expressly excluded and the customer hereby indemnifies and holds harmless INFANTRUST in respect of such liability.

Fitting Your Monitor
Notes:
Do not use the monitor on overly thick waistbands that could distort and damage the clip of the monitor.
If you allow the baby to sleep on her side, please attach the monitor slightly towards that side to ensure good contact with baby’ s tummy and ensure optimal operation.
Lights
Green light marked ‘ ZZZ ’ flashes while rhythmic movement is detected, usually while baby is at rest.
Yellow light marked ‘ ... ’ flashes when general movement is detected, usually while baby is awake and active.
Orange light flashes repeatedly while the TummyTickle tactile stimulator is active or the alarm is sounding. If the TummyTickle feature has been activated at least once, this light will flash with movement instead of green or yellow.
Red light flashes when a system error is detected or the battery is nearing the end of its useful life.
Monitor Functioning
Alarms
- The primary alarm (fast warbling tone) will sound if no movement has been detected for a total of 20 consecutive seconds. Although this might indicate that baby needs urgent attention from a caregiver or medical professional it will always be best to react as calmly as possible to such alarms. Never shake a baby!
- The secondary alarm (slow warbling tone) will sound if the tactile stimulator has been activated 3 times but movement resumed every time within 5 seconds of the stimulation. This might indicate that the unit or the diaper is not optimally fitted, that the diaper has become too wet and is pulling the monitor away from the baby’ s tummy, or that movement has paused but resumed after stimulation. Try tightening the diaper, changing it if wet or using the next size diaper.
Maintaining Your Monitor
Cleaning
To clean the unit, wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not rinse the monitor or immerse it in any liquids and avoid splashing liquid into any opening. Ingress of fluids will invalidate your warranty. Do not use chemicals for cleaning as these may irritate baby’ s skin.
User Tips
- To ensure reliable operation verify that baby’ s diaper is fitted snugly and that it is large enough to allow the top edge of the monitor to be close to level with baby’ s navel. If the unit has difficulty detecting movements the diaper may not be fitted snugly, or may be a size too small.
- If the diapers being used are very thin, slipping a piece of cloth over the diaper’ s edge before sliding the monitor onto the diaper will allow better grip. In the unlikely event of the monitor slipping off during operation it will fail to sense the baby’ s movements, and alarm.
- Ensure that the sensor area of the monitor remains in good contact with baby’ s tummy throughout the monitoring period.
Using a sound/video monitor (optional)
You can relay the monitor’ s alarm sound to other parts of your property by choosing a baby phone most suitable to your needs from the extensive range of one- and two-way baby sound monitors available on the market. You can select from simple sound monitors, sound and video monitors or sound- and temperature monitors, using digital or analogue technology, with single, dual or multiple channels, and in rechargeable or mains operated versions. Follow the instructions for such devices and test the effectiveness of your installation to ensure that you will be able to observe the monitor’ s alarms effectively. You may also consider using your multiple handset home phone in internal call mode.
Registering your monitor
Please register your monitor as soon as possible. Registering your monitor will allow you to upload a photo of your baby to the Respisense web site album.
